Derivatives
Derivatives are financial instruments or financial contracts that have unique characteristics in that their value is derived from the value of the underlying asset. There are 2 types of derivatives traded on the Thailand Futures Exchange (TFEX) - "Futures" and "Options"
Futures are contracts in which two parties are obligated to buy/sell an underlying asset on the date of maturity, according to an agreement.
Options are similar to futures, but one party has a choice whether to buy or sell on the maturity date.
In the derivatives market, investors must deposit a minimum amount which is called the initial margin. Normally, this deposit is less than the money required to buy an underlying asset.
